This week we lost a great one — Koko, the gorilla. Koko, whose extraordinary ability to communicate with humans and aptitude with American Sign Language helped show the world the emotional depth and intelligence of animals, died in her sleep this week, according to the Gorilla Foundation, the Northern California nonprofit that oversaw her care.
Koko told us what it is like to be a gorilla, and she told us in a language that humans can understand. One of the things she and the other signing apes taught us is about the continuity of species. The message coming out of them is that humans aren’t necessarily so special.
Plus, Trump continues to be a horrible, horrible, human being, Beyoncé and Jay-Z give us another surprise album, Rachel Maddow couldn't keep it together and more.
